Why do ditches appear where none were requested?

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

Summary

On a road with assigned ditches, the program may generate ditches on stretches where none were requested. The most common cause is that the ditch omission was set for one situation only (for example, cut only), so that in the other one (fill) the ditch is still generated. This article explains how to review and correct that setting.

Applies to

  • MDT / TcpMDT. The tickets do not indicate a specific version number. The ditch assignment in MDT 26 keeps the Apply field (cut or fill) on which this case depends, according to its reference manual.

  • Ditch assignment function in templates applied to a road.

Symptoms

  • Ditches appear on stretches of the project where they had not been requested.

Cause

In the ditch assignment, the ditch omission was set for cut only, so ditches were still being generated in fill.

Solution

Case: ditches appear on stretches where none were requested

  1. In the ditch assignment settings, review the ditch omission: if you set it for cut only, ditches will still be generated in fill.

  2. Set the omission for both cut and fill so that no ditch is generated on the intended stretches.

If the problem persists

  • If ditches still appear where they should not after correcting the omission, send the segment (.seg) to APLITOP technical support so that they can review the ditch assignment of the particular case.

  • Attach screenshots of the ditch assignment settings and of the affected stretch.
