What types of digital models can be generated and how do they differ?
The software allows generating two main types of models from Point Clouds: Mesh (Digital Elevation Model - DEM), using the Create Grid command, and Surfaces (Triangulated Irregular Network - TIN), through the Create Surface command. Both processes are designed to transform raw data points into continuous Surfaces that facilitate topographic and engineering analysis.
The Mesh organizes information into a regular grid of cells, where the user defines the Current size or resolution, which is ideal for representing large extensions of Terrain. Meanwhile, the triangulated Surface connects points using three-sided faces, allowing a more detailed representation by integrating Break lines that define sharp edges (such as Slopes or curbs) and apply Islands to omit specific areas.
Note that, generally, when working with millions of points, it is much more efficient to use a Mesh, provided this Format is compatible with the technical precision required for the project.
