What file formats can I use to import roads?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

To import roads in tcpGPS (specifically in the Professional version), you can use both native formats from the TcpMDT desktop software and international data exchange standards.

The supported formats are as follows:

  1. TcpMDT Native Formats

These files allow you to load road components individually:

  • .eje files: Contain the horizontal alignment or road axis.

  • .ras files: Contain the vertical alignment or grade information.

  • .tra files: Contain the cross sections defined for the project.

  1. Standard Formats and BIM Exchange

When using these formats, the application automatically imports all roads, vertical alignments, and sections contained in the file:

  • LandXML (.xml): Supports alignment (Alignment), vertical alignment (Profile), and cross section (CrossSects) objects.

  • IFC (.ifc): Specifically compatible with version 4.3 (or 4x3) for importing horizontal alignments, profiles, and cross sections.

Additional Considerations

  • Required Version: Functions for working with roads, including the import of these files, are available exclusively in the Professional (Advanced) version of tcpGPS.

  • DEMO Restrictions: If you are using a demo license, there is a technical limitation that only allows working with road segments of a maximum length of 100 meters.
