How to assign different diameters within a single pipe

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

Summary

In the MDT Networks module it is common to have a pipe of the same type but with a different diameter at different points along its route. This article clarifies that there is no need to split the pipe into several independent pipes: a single pipe supports a variable diameter between nodes.

Applies to

  • MDT 9, MDT 25 and MDT26 — Networks module. The procedure is the same in all three versions.

  • Networks functions (editing nodes and pipes).

Symptoms

  • You need to represent different pipe diameters of the same type within a single pipe, and you do not know whether you should create several independent pipes.

Cause

This is not a program error, but a configuration option of the Networks module that is not always obvious: a single pipe supports a variable diameter between nodes, so there is no need to split it.

Solution

Case: variable diameter within a single pipe

If you have a pipe of the same type but with a different diameter at different points, you do not need to define several independent pipes:

  1. Define a single pipe.

  2. Within that pipe, specify the diameter between nodes, so that the diameter can vary along the route.

If the problem persists

  • If assigning the diameter between nodes does not give the expected result, attach your drawing when opening the enquiry so that support can review the specific configuration of the pipe.
