How to avoid nodes being created at every vertex of the polyline when creating a network section?
Summary
When generating a network section in plan from a polyline with several changes of direction, MDT creates nodes at every intermediate vertex. This article explains the two ways of keeping only the nodes of the real changes of direction or of section: adjusting the node interval when the network is created, or clearing the Visible checkbox of the node if it already exists, without deleting it.
Applies to
MDT — Networks module. The documented case is on MDT 25. In MDT26 the procedure is the same: the reference manual documents Create Nodes from drawing under MDT26 > Networks > Nodes.
Networks functions (generating sections from polylines, creating and editing nodes).
Symptoms
When generating a network section in plan from a polyline with several changes of direction, nodes are created at every intermediate vertex, and you only want those of the real changes of direction or of section.
Deleting the intermediate nodes also loses the change of direction of the section.
Cause
This is not a program error but two configuration options of the Networks module that are not always obvious:
The number of nodes generated when creating a section from a polyline depends on the node interval given in the command.
A node can be hidden in the drawing without being deleted, so that the section keeps its change of direction or of section.
Solution
Case: avoiding nodes at every intermediate vertex of the polyline
When creating a network section in plan from a polyline with several changes of direction, MDT generates nodes at the intermediate vertices by default. There are two ways to keep only the nodes of the changes of direction:
When creating the network (recommended if you have not generated it yet):
When running the command that creates the network from the polyline, in the node interval field enter a value greater than the total length of the polyline.
This way MDT will only create nodes at the changes of direction, not at the intermediate vertices.
If the nodes already exist and you do not want to lose the changes of direction:
Run Edit Node and select, in plan, the node you do not want to show.
In the window that appears, clear the Visible checkbox. The node stops appearing in the drawing without being deleted, so the section keeps its change of direction or of section.
To show it again, run Edit once more, select the block at the insertion point of the node (the block is not deleted) and tick the Visible checkbox again.
If the problem persists
If hiding or deleting nodes does not give the expected result, attach your drawing when opening the query so that support can review the specific configuration of the network.
