How can I edit the base map?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

To edit the base map in tcpGPS, you must interact with the Base Map Layer, which is a unique special layer that is automatically created when starting any project.

Below are the ways to edit and configure it:

  1. Accessing editing from the Layer Manager

To modify the properties of the base map in the current project:

  1. From the map screen (Survey or Setting Out Lines), open the Layer Manager.

  2. Locate the entry named Base Map and press the Edit button (pencil icon).

  3. On the editing screen, you can configure:

    • Opacity: Regulates the level of transparency of the map using a slider.

    • Color: Allows you to choose the background color that will be displayed when the map cannot be loaded or is disabled.

  1. Changing the base map type (ESRI)

If you use ESRI base maps (global coverage), you can quickly change their display from the Map Menu (floating menu on the main screen):

  • You can switch between modes: Topographic, Streets, or Satellite.

  1. Using custom WMTS services

In addition to the predefined maps, you can configure your own base maps through WMTS services:

  • Add/Edit: You can manually add a service by entering its name and URL, or edit an existing one if its data changes.

  • Import: Allows you to load a list of services from a text file with the format <Name> <URL>.

  1. Default configuration for new projects

If you want all your projects to start with a specific configuration, go to Menu > Application > Configuration > Default Base Map. Here you can:

  • Enable or disable ESRI maps.

  • Choose which of the three modes (Streets, Satellite, or Topographic) will always be displayed when entering a map screen.

  • Associate a WMS/WMTS service so that it is automatically included when creating any new project.

Remember that for base maps to load correctly, the application requires an Internet connection.
