How do you set out a line?

Updated on tcpGPS

To perform the setting out of a line in tcpGPS, a tool is used that allows you to plot a trajectory defined by the union of two existing points in the Drawing Data database.

The steps and functionalities available in this mode are described below:

  1. Line Selection

  • Access the main menu and select Set Out > Setting Out Lines.

  • The application will ask you to designate the first point and then the second point directly on the map.

  • Once selected, a line will graphically join them and the guidance interface will be activated.

  1. On-screen guidance information

During setting out, the application displays numerical and visual data to help you position yourself relative to the line:

  • GNSS TO N-P1-P2: Indicates the orthogonal distance from your current position to the line.

  • GNSS TO N-P1: Shows the distance from your projected position on the line to the start point (the first point you selected).

  • D P1-P2: This is the total length of the selected segment.

  • D P1-P2: The azimuth or direction of the line from the start to the destination.

  • Visual diagram: The screen presents a graphic indicating whether you are to the right or left of the line. If you are before the start point or after the Final Point, a dotted line will inform you of this situation.

  1. Setting out parallels

An advanced function of this mode allows you to set out a parallel line to the original:

  • Press the corresponding button to open the Distances dialog.

  • Enter the offset in meters:

    • Positive value: The parallel will be located to the right of the original line.

    • Negative value: It will be located to the left.

  • The orientation (right/left) is always determined looking from the start point towards the destination point.

  1. Other OPTIONS

  • Change line: If you wish to set out a different line, use the reload button to Reset the point selection.

  • Polylines: If you need to set out elements with more than two points (such as cartography imported in DXF or KML), you must use the Polyline Setting Out option, which allows working by PK (chainage) or by selecting specific vertices.
