Errors when drawing the long section caused by damaged or missing numerical data files
Summary
The numerical data file (extension .GTR) is the template that defines which values are labelled underneath the long section. Some errors when drawing the profile do not depend on how that template is configured, but on the state of its files in the installation: .GTR templates that are corrupt, empty, misconfigured or inherited from an earlier version produce file-reading errors, badly formatted values or repeated warnings about a file from a previous version; and a support file that was not copied during installation prevents you from opening or editing the numerical data definition at all. This article gathers those cases and their solution: repair, restore or reinstall the affected files.
Applies to
MDT — applies to MDT 9, MDT 25 and MDT 26 (MDT 9 and MDT 25 are the versions documented in the support cases).
CAD: one of the documented file-reading cases occurs in ZWCAD 2025; the remaining cases do not state a specific CAD.
Symptoms
When drawing profiles in phases, in comparison mode or the simple long section, a file-reading error appears («lectura incorrecta de fichero» in the Spanish interface).
A long section can no longer be generated in a drawing where it worked correctly moments earlier.
The partial distances of the profile (every 5 metres, for instance) come out badly formatted.
When drawing the profile from a segment, the warning that a file from a previous version has been selected appears several times.
On opening the numerical data definition —or editing the template from the drawn profile— an error message appears and no template can be edited, whichever one you select.
Cause
The .GTR template files in the installation folder are corrupt, empty, misconfigured or belong to an earlier version; or else a support file needed by the numerical data definition was not copied correctly during installation.
Solution
Case: file-reading error, badly formatted values or a warning about a file from a previous version (damaged templates)
These symptoms mean that the numerical data files in the installation folder are corrupt, empty, misconfigured or from an earlier version. The folder moved between versions: in MDT25 it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Aplitop\MDT25\Config\es\guitarras, whereas in MDT26 the templates are no longer split by language and live in Config\Guitarras inside the installation folder. That folder holds the templates the program installs: Mdt.gtr (compound profile), Simple.gtr (simple profile), Doster.gtr (two terrains), Dosras.gtr (two grade lines), Transver.gtr (cross sections), electrica.gtr (power lines) and the country-standard ones, Colombia.gtr and Chile.gtr.
Try the following, in this order:
Install the latest update for your version from your private area at www.aplitop.com: it is the simplest and quickest route, and it refreshes any template that has become misconfigured. (In one documented case the default
doster.gtrtemplate came out empty because of an issue that was fixed in the following update.)Restore the numerical data files in the installation folder. In the documented cases support supplied the correct files (
doster.gtr,dosras.gtr, or the complete set for that version) to be copied into the folder, overwriting the existing ones; in one case simply deletingdoster.gtranddosras.gtrcleared the error when drawing the simple profile. Ask support if you need the original files.Uninstall and reinstall the program from the official installer, which restores every numerical data file.
Case: error when opening «Definition of Numerical Data» or editing the template (support file not copied)
If running MDT > Profiles > Drawing > Definition of Numerical Data (or editing the template from the drawn profile) shows an error message with any template, the documented cause is a support file that was not copied correctly during installation.
Contact support so they can send you the missing file. You do not need to know its name: it is one of the support files of the installation —in the case documented on MDT 8 it was
mdt.msg, the program's messages file— and support will send the one matching your version and language.Close the program completely.
Copy the file into the
Supportfolder of your installation, in the subfolder for the language you use (es,enorfr), overwriting the existing one: for exampleC:\Program Files (x86)\Aplitop\MDT9\support\esfor MDT 9.Restart the program: the message should no longer appear.
If the problem persists
Prepare the data of your case for support: the DWG, the alignment (.EJE) file and the long section (.LON) file (if there are several, put them in a ZIP).
Run MDT > About Tcp-MDT, press the Export button and attach the resulting file as well: it lets support check the state of your installation.
Contact Aplitop technical support; through the Support Chat (https://private.aplitop.com/support) they can set up a remote connection to your computer to check it.
