How can surface analysis be performed?
The surface analysis is an exclusive functionality of the Professional version of tcpGPS designed to compare, in real time, the actual terrain with a digital model.
To carry out this process, you must follow the following steps and requirements:
Prerequisites
Loading the surface: You must have a 3D surface loaded in the project (imported from DXF files with 3DFACE objects or LandXML) or a digital model generated using the application's own triangulation tool.
Selecting the active layer: If your project contains multiple surfaces or models, it is essential to enter Layer Management and mark the one you wish to analyze as the active layer.
Access methods
There are two main ways to start the analysis:
From the Setting Out Lines menu: Go to Menu > Setting Out Lines > Surface Analysis.
From surface management: Enter Menu > Edit > Surfaces, select the desired surface from the list, and press the information button (icon with an "i").
Operation and data obtained
Once the analysis mode is activated, the application uses the current horizontal position of the GNSS receiver to view the corresponding elevation in the active 3D Model. The following information will be displayed continuously on the screen:
Elevation: Indicates the current altitude captured by the GNSS receiver.
Difference of Cota: Shows the difference in elevation (positive or negative) between the GPS position and the theoretical surface.
This tool is fundamental for execution control on site, allowing you to quickly verify if the terrain is at the design elevation defined in the digital design.
