How is point triangulation performed to create a Digital Model?
The creation of a Digital Model through triangulation is an exclusive feature of the Professional version of TcpGPS. This process converts project points into triangle vertices to generate an irregular mesh that defines the terrain relief.
To perform this procedure, follow these steps:
Accessing the tool
Go to the main menu and select the path Edit > Surfaces. Once on the surface management screen, press the Surface Tools button (wrench icon) and select the Triangulation option.
Parameter configuration
Upon entering the configuration screen, you must define the following data:
Name and Color: Assign a name to the model and the color with which it will be represented on the map.
Breaklines: If your project contains lines or polylines, you can activate them as breaklines. Although not mandatory, it is highly advisable so that the model accurately defines changes in terrain slope.
Maximum distance: Set the maximum allowed length for the triangle edges; triangles with edges exceeding this value will not be created.
Contour lines: You can activate this option to automatically generate major and minor contours, defining their names, colors, and height intervals.
Execution and results
After accepting the configuration, the application will start the triangulation process. Upon completion, the following layers will be automatically added to the project:
Digital model layer: Manages terrain visualization and is used for subsequent Surface Analysis.
Contour lines layer: If you chose to generate them, two additional layers will appear with the graphical representation of the levels.
Please note that you can generate multiple models, but if you use an existing name, the previous model will be replaced by the new one.
