How is volume calculation performed?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

The Volume Calculation in tcpGPS is an exclusive feature of the Professional version that allows determining earthworks relative to a specific elevation.

Below, the procedure to perform it is detailed:

  1. Accessing the tool

To begin, you must go to the main menu and follow the path Edit > Surfaces. In the list of imported or generated surfaces, select the one you wish to use and press the SURFACE TOOLS button (wrench icon) to open the interactive map.

  1. Selection of the calculation area

Once on the Elevations screen, press the Volume Calculation icon. The system will ask you to SELECT a polygon or parcel that is contained within or intersects with the Elevations; to do this, simply press on said polygon on the map, which will appear shaded after selection.

  1. Elevation configuration and calculation

After choosing the area, the application will automatically calculate the maximum, minimum, and average elevations of the model in that specific zone and display them on screen. To proceed with the final calculation, you must:

  • Enter the desired Variable elevation in the text field.

  • Press OK.

  1. Results and Export

Upon finishing the calculations (which are performed via a vertical Orthogonal cut to the Variable), the application will display a dialog with the following resulting values:

  • Cut Slopes and fill volume.

  • Difference in volume.

  • Cut Slopes area and fill area.

If you wish to keep this data, you can press the EXPORT button to generate a file with extension .txt in the Device Storage, which can be shared later.

License Lookup Settings text box: For the SURFACE TOOLS to work, ensure that the Surface on which you wish to work is marked as the active layer in Layer Management or in the list of Surfaces to SELECT.
