How do I process LiDAR data, DTMs and orthophotos from public sources in tcp PointCloud Editor?

Updated on tcp PointCloud Editor Leer en español

Public administrations in various countries often make large volumes of high-precision geospatial data available to professionals. Tcp PointCloud Editor is designed to efficiently integrate this information into technical projects by following this procedure:

  • Mass Import and Unification of Clouds: To work with LiDAR file sets (formats LAS or LAZ), you should use the Import Point Clouds command.

  • Leveraging Standard Classification: Since public data is usually already classified according to international standards, the user can employ Representation by Category to immediately visualize and identify terrain, vegetation, or buildings.

  • Direct Import and Analysis of GeoTIFF: Official sources frequently offer pre-processed digital models in GeoTIFF format. These can be incorporated directly into the project using the Import Grid or Surface command. Once imported, the software allows for advanced geographic analysis by applying configurable symbologies based on elevations, slopes, or aspects.

  • Generation of Custom Models: If the user prefers to generate their own model from the points, they can execute the Create Grid command to obtain a high-resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM), facilitating the subsequent calculation of Contour Lines.

  • Photorealistic Texturing with Orthophotos: To improve the visual interpretation of the relief, it is possible to Import Orthophoto (in formats such as TIF, ECW, or JPG) and project it as a texture onto the generated or imported digital model. This allows for a realistic representation of the terrain that combines the metric precision of the model with the visual information from aerial photography.
