What workflows does tcp PointCloud Editor offer for forestry and green areas?
For projects in natural or forest environments, the software offers critical tools that allow precise analysis of vegetation structure and terrain relief. The recommended workflow for these sectors includes:
Extraction of terrain under dense vegetation: After importing LiDAR data, it is essential to use Selection by Return to keep only the last echoes (Last of many or Unique), which are those that usually reach the ground through the foliage.
Automated classification: The user can apply AI Classification using its No text model, which automatically labels points belonging to the "High Vegetation" (trees) category, separating them from the ground.
Digital Terrain Model (DTM): Using ground points filtered by the Selection by CSF algorithm or by AI, you can execute the Create Surface command to generate a high-fidelity DTM that ignores vegetation and shows the actual breaks in the relief.
Tree inventory and analysis: For forest stand management, the Detect Vertical Elements command allows automatic identification of tree stems based on their geometry. This tool is especially useful for forest management, as it allows configuring search parameters to determine trunk radius and height, facilitating the extraction of detailed lists in CSV format for further analysis.
