How to orbit the view while drawing in 3D?
Summary
When working on the point cloud with the CAD tools, the mouse may only pan the view and not let you rotate it to change the perspective. This happens in any interactive 3D drawing operation —points, lines, arcs, circles, 2D and 3D polylines…—, and this article explains how to switch to orbit mode with the keyboard without leaving the drawing.
Applies to
TCP PointCloud Editor.
The documented case does not state a version number.
Symptoms
When drawing on the CAD you can only pan the view and cannot rotate it to change the perspective.
It happens in any interactive 3D drawing operation: points, lines, arcs, circles, 2D and 3D polylines, etc.
Cause
This is not a program error, but the normal behaviour of 3D navigation: while drawing on the CAD, the mouse works in view-panning mode by default; to orbit you have to switch mode with the keyboard.
Solution
Case: orbiting the view to change the perspective while drawing on the CAD
While using the mouse on the CAD, hold down the Control key.
With the Control key held down, the mouse switches to movement or orbit mode, which lets you rotate the view and change the perspective.
If the problem persists
If you still cannot orbit the view after following these steps, contact Aplitop technical support.
