It closes when setting intensity and the clouds turn black

Updated on tcp PointCloud Editor Leer en español

Summary

When the number of ranges of the intensity representation is set to 1, TCP PointCloud Editor closes. From then on all the clouds are shown black and the intensity settings can no longer be opened, not even in new projects or with other files, because the faulty configuration has been saved. The fault was fixed in version 1.20, so this article applies only to earlier versions. It explains how to restore the display by deleting the affected configuration file, both on the computer and inside each project.

Applies to

  • TCP PointCloud Editor in versions earlier than 1.20. From version 1.20 onwards the error no longer occurs.

  • Point cloud display by intensity.

Symptoms

  • When setting the intensity representation with a single range, the application closes.

  • After reopening it, all the clouds appear black instead of coloured by intensity.

  • The intensity settings can no longer be accessed, and the problem repeats in new projects and with other files.

  • Reinstalling the application does not solve the problem on its own.

Cause

A null reference error adjusted the range sizes before initialising their list when the number of ranges was set to 1. The invalid value was saved both in the local configuration of the computer and inside the projects opened with that configuration, so the fault persisted even if the project was changed or the program reinstalled.

Solution

Case: the application closes when setting intensity with one range and the clouds turn black

After setting the number of ranges to 1 in the intensity representation, the application closes and, on reopening it, the clouds are shown black, even in new projects and with other files, because the faulty configuration has been saved.

  1. Close TCP PointCloud Editor.

  2. Delete the PointClouds.cfg file from the local configuration of the computer: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Aplitop\PointCloudEditor\Configuration\Representation\PointClouds.cfg

  3. Delete the equivalent file inside each affected project as well, in the corresponding path: …\<PCE_project_folder>\Configuration\Representation\PointClouds.cfg

  4. Open the application again: the display returns to its default values and you will be able to access the intensity settings again.

If the problem persists

  • If after deleting both files the problem continues in new projects, contact Aplitop technical support through the support chat so that a remote connection can be made and the case analysed.

  • If you had advanced work in an affected project and cannot recover it, state this when opening the enquiry so that support can assess its recovery.
