What undo and redo options are there when editing points?

Updated on tcp PointCloud Editor Leer en español

Summary

TCP-PointCloud Editor provides partial undo options, which differ depending on the type of operation (drawing, vertex insertion, cloud transformations, filtering or deletion), but there is no generic «redo» function. This article states what can be undone and what precaution to take before making major changes, which since version 1.21 —with automatic saving— is no longer closing without saving.

Applies to

  • TCP-PointCloud Editor (POINTCLOUD). The documented cases do not state version numbers.

  • Drawing, point editing (filtering and deletion) and transformation operations on point clouds.

Symptoms

  • You miss a generic control to undo or redo any operation.

  • After making an unwanted change you cannot find a way to revert it completely.

Cause

Many operations depend on the context (viewpoint, state of the project elements), so a generic redo history would be very complex and costly to implement. For that reason the generic «redo» is not implemented and «undo» is offered partially, tied to each type of operation.

Solution

Case: undoing or redoing operations

  1. Use the partial undo options available for each type of operation: undo something drawn, undo the last vertex insertion while drawing an entity, undo a point cloud transformation, or undo a filtering or deletion of selected points.

  2. Bear in mind that there is no generic «redo» function.

  3. As a precaution before major changes, make a copy of the project before opening and editing it: the .pce file and the folder with the same name. If you end up saving unwanted changes, you only have to restore that copy.

If the problem persists

  • If you need to revert a change for which there is no undo option, contact Aplitop technical support stating the operations carried out.
