Support
The tcp PointCloud Editor project does not open when double-clicking
Summary
When you double-click a saved project file (extension .pce) from the Windows file explorer, TCP PointCloud Editor opens but stays on the start screen without loading the project. This is not a program fault: the application is not designed to open projects through the operating system file association. The correct way is to open the application first and then load the project from its menu.
Applies to
TCP PointCloud Editor. The documented case does not state a specific version number, so it is not restricted to any version.
Symptoms
When double-clicking a saved project file (
.pce), the application opens but stays on the start screen, without loading or restoring the selected project.Saved projects cannot be opened again once the application has been closed.
Cause
The operating system associates the project file extension (.pce) so that it opens directly with the application. However, TCP PointCloud Editor is not designed to open projects this way, so when it is launched by double-clicking the file it stays on the start screen.
Solution
Case: loading the project from the application menu
Open TCP PointCloud Editor first.
Load the project you want by activating the Home ribbon and, within the PROJECT group, clicking the Open icon.
Select the project file (
.pce) you want to load.
Do not open the file by double-clicking it in the file explorer: always do it from inside the application with the procedure above.
If the problem persists
If you still cannot open your projects after following this procedure, contact Aplitop technical support and provide a download link to one of the affected projects so that they can analyse why they do not open.
