What can I do if the application runs slowly when viewing or processing data?

Updated on tcp PointCloud Editor Leer en español

If you experience performance issues when working with Tcp PointCloud Editor, there are various strategies to optimize both visualization and processing speed, depending on the source of the problem:

Visualization Optimization

If navigation through the point cloud is slow or jerky, the cause is usually related to the graphics card (GPU). The following actions are recommended:

  • Selecting the high-performance GPU: On computers with two graphics cards, the system may be using the lower-power one by default. You should access your graphics card control panel (e.g., NVIDIA) and configure the software to always use the higher-performance graphics processor.

  • Adjusting data volume: If the current GPU lacks sufficient power, try working with a smaller number of visible points or elements in the project.

  • Hardware upgrade: For complex professional projects, it may be necessary to switch to a card with higher speed and memory capabilities or use a more powerful computer.

Processing and Operations Optimization

When slowness occurs while executing commands or processes on data, the determining factors are usually RAM memory and disk speed. You can improve performance by following these tips:

  • Use of fast storage drives: It is essential to store projects you are actively working on in SSD or NVMe technology drives to speed up reading and writing.

  • Managing large projects: When importing large point clouds, it is recommended to save and close the project immediately after importation and reopen it to continue working with optimized system resources.

  • Point cloud unification: If you are working with multiple aligned scans, it is preferable to import them by activating the unify clouds option, or unify them once aligned and delete the original individual clouds from the project to reduce management load.

  • Density reduction and consolidation: For clouds with a density higher than required, use the Density Selection tools to remove redundant points. Subsequently, execute the Consolidate command to permanently purge hidden or deleted data and physically lighten the project files.
