The tcp PointCloud Editor installer warns of insufficient resolution

Updated on tcp PointCloud Editor Leer en español

Summary

When installing or updating TCP-PointCloud Editor (POINTCLOUD), the installer of version 1.21 checks that the monitor meets a minimum resolution of 1280x1024 and stops the installation with a warning, even though the monitor exceeds that minimum by far. The detection usually fails when the Windows font/display scaling is other than 100 %. This article explains how to continue with the installation by temporarily adjusting the Windows scale.

Applies to

  • TCP-PointCloud Editor (POINTCLOUD): installation or update process of the application.

  • The version 1.21 installer, the only one that includes the minimum resolution check. The check was removed in later versions.

Symptoms

  • When starting the installation of a new version, after selecting the language, the warning «This product requires at least a resolution of 1280x1024. Setup cannot continue» appears, preventing you from going on even though the monitor exceeds that resolution (for example, 1920x1080) and has not been changed.

Cause

The version 1.21 installer includes a minimum resolution check (1280x1024) that may fail incorrectly when the Windows font/display scaling is other than 100 %. This check was removed in later versions of the installer.

Solution

Case: the installer warns of insufficient resolution («requires at least 1280x1024»)

  1. Check that the main monitor has at least 1280x1024 pixels of resolution (support recommends 1920x1080 as a minimum).

  2. Right-click on the desktop, open Display settings and set the scale to exactly 100 % before launching the installer; any other value, including 125 %, may trigger the warning. Once the application has been installed, you can go back to your preferred scale.

  3. Run the installer again.

If library errors appear after installing, there are probably leftovers from a previous installation: see POINTCLOUD does not start after installing or updating and carry out a clean reinstall.

If the problem persists

  • If after adjusting the scale the installer still does not let you continue, contact Aplitop technical support through the chat for a more detailed diagnosis.
