How can I import points?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

To Import in the tcpGPS application, you must access the main menu and select the Import > Points option. This tool allows you to incorporate coordinates obtained from other platforms or previous projects.

The steps and compatible formats are detailed below:

  1. Supported file formats

The application allows importing points from various file types:

  • TXT or PUN: Data must follow the order: <point number> <X> <Y> <Z> <point code>.

  • CSV: Coordinates, numbers, and codes separated by commas or semicolons are extracted.

  • DXF: Specifically imports "POINT" type Objects contained in Other.

  • KML/KMZ: Point entities are taken as valid for the project.

  • GSI: Obtains information from specific elements 41, 42, 11, 81, 82, and 83.

  1. Import Procedure

  1. File selection: When pressing the import option, the Android FILE EXPLORER (SAF) will open, allowing you to choose files from both the Device's internal memory and Google Drive.

  2. OPTIONS configuration: In the dialog box that appears, you can check:

    • Point Number: To use the original numbering from the file instead of generating one automatically.

    • Process Point Codes: Compares the codes in the file with the database to automatically interpret whether they are Site points, polylines, or polygons.

  3. Choice of import mode: You must decide how the points will be integrated into the current project:

    • Replace (Remarks): Replaces points with the same point number, and adds the rest.

    • Insert: Adds the new points to the end of the existing list, starting from the initial number you specify.

    • Merge: Only adds those points whose number does not already exist in the current Point Cloud of the project.

Once the process is finished, the imported points will be available for editing or for use in SETTING OUT LINES tasks.
