How can I transfer data from one device to another, or between installations?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

There are several ways to transfer data between devices or installations of tcpGPS, depending on whether you want to move all your jobs or individual projects.

The available methods are detailed below:

  1. Global Backup (Recommended)

This is the most effective method for transferring all projects at once.

  • On the source device: Go to Menu > Application > Backup > Create Backup. The application will generate a .zip file with all projects, which you can save to internal storage or upload directly to Google Drive.

  • On the destination device: Transfer the .zip file to the new device, go to Restore Backup and select the file. You can choose to restore everything or only specific projects.

  • Note: When restoring a project with the same name, it will be automatically replaced.

  1. Export and Import of Individual Projects

If you only need to transfer a specific job:

  • Export: Use the Project Export option in the data menu. A .zip file will be created containing the complete project folder, its data, and layers.

  • Import: On the new device, select Project Import and load the .zip file from internal storage or the cloud.

  • Note: You cannot import a project that is currently open in the application.

  1. Manual Method via PC (USB Cable)

If for some reason you cannot access the main menu:

  1. Connect the Android device to the PC in "File Transfer" mode.

  2. Navigate to the path: Android\data\com.aplitop.tcpgps\files\projects.

  3. Copy the folders of the projects you wish to transfer to the PC, and then paste them into the same path on the new device.

Remember that if the change to a new device is permanent, after exporting all the files you want, you must release the license on the original device before activating it on the new one.
