Once the road is defined, how can I obtain the Final Terrain?

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

To obtain the final state of the surface after designing a road in TcpMDT, use the Get Modified Terrain command. This tool allows you to generate the project's Final Surface by merging the Stockpile Selection with the linear work design.

Below are the main steps and options to perform this process:

  1. REQUIREMENTS

To execute this operation, it is essential to have the complete definition of the Fill seat, generally centralized in a segment file (.SEG) that includes the Main Alignment, PROFILE, grade line, and typical Cross section.

  1. Command Execution

You must access the menu Surfaces > Manual thickness > Proposed Terrain (or from the Roads/Segments menu). Upon starting it, the program will request you to designate the corresponding segment file.

  1. Parameter Configuration

In the configuration dialog, you can customize the following aspects:

  • P.K. Interval: Allows you to define whether to process the Other or only a specific section by indicating the Mode initial and final P.K.

  • Elevation to use: You can choose whether the Final Terrain is generated at the Earth (subgrade) or Pavement (wearing course) level, even selecting specific layers if the pavement has several.

  • Route Interpolation: This option allows obtaining plan polylines with greater definition, creating additional vertices between the Cross-sections.

  1. Types of RESULTS to Obtain

The program offers two types of resulting Surfaces:

  • Modified Surf.: This is the Surface file resulting from the fusion of the original terrain with the road design.

  • Road Surf.: A Surface that contains only the road design and its slopes, without integrating the rest of the Stockpile Selection.

  • Earthworks Vol.: There is an option to generate a file (.MT) with volume information, which is very useful for exports to BIM (IFC) methodology.

  1. Automation and WATCH

  • Automatic Update: In MDT 25, if you make any changes to the road (such as MODIFYing the grade line or the typical Cross section) from the segment editor, the generation of the modified terrain in the drawing will be automatically updated.

  • 3D Representation: By checking the corresponding box, the program will build a realistic mode 3D view with textures applied to the road (asphalt, earth, etc.) once the calculation is finished.

  • Verification: You can perform a Quick Profile on the resulting model to instantly WATCH how the road has been integrated into the original terrain.
