Why does vertex numbering differ when dimensioning?
Summary
When you label a plot and generate the coordinate table, the vertex numbering in the table often does not match the numbering shown on screen when you dimension the plot. This article explains why this happens and how to obtain the table with the expected numbering.
Applies to
MDT. The documented ticket does not record a specific version number.
MDT Plots functions: Label Plots (coordinate table) and Dimension Plots.
Symptoms
The vertex numbering in the coordinate table does not match the vertex numbering displayed on screen when the plot is dimensioned.
The table lists point numbers other than those shown when the vertices are numbered on the drawing.
Cause
The Label Plots command numbers each vertex with the number of the MDT point found at that position, whereas Dimension Plots numbers the vertices sequentially from 1, whether or not an MDT point exists at the vertex. This is why the two numberings do not match.
Solution
Case: vertex numbering does not match between the coordinate table and the dimensioning
The difference arises because, when an MDT point exists at the vertex, Label Plots uses that point number instead of a sequential numbering. To obtain the table with the expected numbering:
Export the MDT points of the drawing to a file.
Delete those points from the drawing.
Label the plot: the vertices will now be numbered sequentially from 1.
Import the points again from the file.
If the problem persists
If the numbering is still not the expected one after exporting the points, deleting them and labelling the plot, send the drawing to Aplitop technical support so that they can reproduce the situation.
