What types of observations can be managed in a survey?

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

MDT manages various types of observations:

Fundamental Observations

MDT recognizes four fundamental types to generate observation equations.

  • Distance: They include the identification of the source station, the target station, and the value of the corrected distance.

  • Azimuth: They incorporate positioning information along with the necessary horizontal correction or disorientation.

  • Angular: They are derived from the differences in angles measured between consecutive station observations.

  • Vertical: They are based on the analysis of the difference between the elevation difference observed in the field and that calculated by the mathematical model.

Face Left and Face Right

The program allows managing double observations associated with the same point, capturing one observation with face left and another with face right. MDT performs an automatic validation of vertical angles, checking that they fall between 50 and 150 gradians for face left, and between 250 and 350 for face right. Thanks to this method, the software can automatically calculate and apply the instrument angular corrections (both horizontal and vertical) by averaging the detected errors.

Forward and Backward or Reciprocal Observations

Reciprocal observations refer to those forward and backward readings taken from a source station to a target station and vice versa. In the MDT interface, these readings are managed through the Reciprocal checkbox within the observation editing dialog.
