How can platforms be created and their earthworks calculated?

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

MDT offers specific tools to modify the current surface by creating platforms, allowing automatic calculation of the necessary cut and fill slopes. There are two main methods depending on the known data:

  • Earthworks by Terrain Elevation: Used when the outer boundary of the contacts with the terrain (where the slopes end) is known. The program generates the slopes inward until reaching a defined platform elevation or an elevation calculated to balance volumes.

  • Earthworks by Platform Elevation: Used when the boundary of the upper platform is known. The slopes are generated outward until they intersect the natural surface.

Advanced functionalities in platform creation:

  • Target Volume: Allows the program to automatically search for the platform elevation needed to equalize cut with fill or to obtain a specific net volume.

  • Variable Slopes: It is possible to assign different cut and fill slopes to each segment of the polyline that defines the platform.

  • Corner Rounding: The user can choose to round the convex vertices of the slopes to obtain a more natural modeling.

  • Assignment of Work Units: Budget codes can be linked to the generated cut and fill volumes to automatically obtain cost reports.
