Can you work with multiple surfaces in the same drawing?

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

Yes, in MDT 25 it is perfectly possible to work with multiple surfaces within the same drawing.

To manage this efficiently, the program offers the following functionalities and mechanisms:

  • Organization by Layers: MDT allows you to activate the option to include the surface file name in the layer name (typically using the SUP- prefix). This ensures that each surface is drawn on a separate layer, allowing multiple triangulations to exist in the same drawing without mixing.

  • Current Surface vs. Drawn Surfaces: The program distinguishes between the Current Surface, which is the reference file used by default for calculations (obtaining profiles, volumes, customization, etc.), and the surfaces that are simply represented graphically in the CAD. Although only one can be the "current" surface for automatic processes, the Represent as command allows you to select and represent any other surface file available in the project.

  • Comparison and multiple analysis:

    • Quick Profile: This tool allows you to select multiple surfaces simultaneously to watch and compare their profiles instantly in a graphic window.

    • Obtaining profiles: It is possible to generate groups of cross-sections or profiles from multiple surfaces simultaneously.

    • Merging: If you wish to integrate information, MDT features the Surface Merge command, which allows you to include one or more surfaces into the surface established as current.

This capability is especially useful in projects that require comparing the original ground state with different execution phases or design proposals.
