How can surfaces created by other applications be converted?

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

To convert surfaces that have been drawn in the CAD by other applications or modified manually, MDT offers several tools depending on the type of object or original format:

  • Convert 3D Faces: This command allows you to create an MDT surface file from a triangulation drawn with line-type objects. It is ideal for importing work from other programs where the original surface file has been lost.

  • Create from Mesh: Similar to the previous one, this utility generates an MDT surface using 3D Face-type objects. For the process to be correct, the faces must share elevations at their common vertices.

  • Create Surface: Allows direct conversion of external triangulation files. It supports formats such as GeoTIFF (showing boundaries and number of points) and LAS/LAZ Laser files. In the case of laser files, the program allows filtering by categories (such as "terrain") and limiting the maximum length of the triangle sides.

  • IMPORT LANDXML: Through this command, files in standard LandXML format can be converted to MDT surface files. The user can choose between importing the data to a file or automatically drawing them in the CAD.

  • IMPORT IFC: Similarly, IFC files from versions 2x3, 4, or 4.3 containing topographic surfaces can be converted.
