When opening a CAD drawing created with MDT on another computer, the points do not appear

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

When opening a CAD drawing created with MDT on a computer that does not have the program installed, it is common for points not to be displayed or to appear as proxy entities, since MDT uses its own type of entity to represent them.

The three possible solutions to resolve this compatibility issue are explained below. The first two are preventive measures and are performed on the computer running MDT. The last one is for the computer that does not have MDT installed.

  1. Configure the use of blocks

With MDT > Utilities > Configuration > Points, you can configure the program to draw points as blocks instead of proprietary entities. This parameter will apply to new drawings created. For existing drawings, the program does not change the entity type.

  1. Convert Surface Vertices

MDT includes the command Convert Surface Vertices, which allows converting point information (number, elevation, and code) into standard CAD text objects.

  1. Install MDT Object Enabler

By default, MDT uses "MDT points," which are special entities that are faster to process but cannot be handled by CAD alone. As with points from other programs, to make these entities visible and readable on a computer without the full application, installation of the corresponding Object Enabler is required. Once installed, the CAD software recognizes the geometry and point data without needing to transform the original drawing, avoiding proxy object warnings.
