How do I enter custom text in the code text field?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

To freely enter text in the tcpGPS code text field, there are two main methods depending on the level of flexibility you need:

  1. Entering Quick Codes

You can type directly into the "Code" text box located in the STATUS BAR of the Survey screen.

  • This option creates a quick code that will be associated with the next X, Y points taken.

  • Please note that these codes are always of the point type and are not stored permanently in the project's code database. They also account for prohibited characters used in code interpretation, which are not allowed.

  1. "No Code Interpretation" Option (Full Freedom)

If you need to enter more complex texts that include spaces or characters that normally act as separators, you must enable a specific function in the settings:

  • Go to the application's SETTINGS section.

  • Check the "No Code Interpretation" box.

  • Operation: This option allows you to enter any text string in the code box on the status bar without the system attempting to process it as a graphic entity or a multi-code.

  • Important limitations: While this mode is active, codes will not be displayed graphically on the map, and the code database will not be accessible to the user.

This last function is ideal for instruments that only need to record textual data as additional information and do not require the software to automatically draw symbols or lines in the field.
