How to create and edit codes?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

In tcpGPS, the code management allows you to classify and distinguish surveyed points, assigning them graphic properties and organizing them into layers. Below are the details on how to create, edit, and manage these codes:

  1. Accessing Code Management

To open the code management screen from Survey mode, there are two ways:

  • Press the code management button (icon with the letters "ABC") in numeric mode.

  • Perform a long press on the "Code" text field located in the application's status bar.

  1. Create and Edit a Code

On the editing screen, you can define the following properties for each code:

  • Code Name: Identifier (e.g., TREE, SIDEWALK).

  • Geometry Type: You must choose between Punctual (isolated points), Linear (for polylines), or Station Observations (for areas or plots).

  • Layer: You can associate the code with a specific layer to group elements in the plan.

  • Description: An optional explanatory text about the code.

  • Visual Style: Allows you to customize the representation on the map:

    • Points: Color, size, and symbol type (cross, circle, square, etc.).

    • Lines: Color, thickness, and line style (solid, dashed, etc.).

    • Polygons: In addition to the border style, it allows defining the fill color and its transparency level.

  1. Use of Multi-codes and Suffixes

  • Multi-code: A point can have several simultaneous codes by selecting the "Use" checkbox next to each code in the list. These will appear separated by a symbol (configurable), and the program will take the graphic representation of the first one belonging to a visible layer.

  • Suffixes: For linear and polygonal codes, suffixes are used to control drawing:
It is important to note that to draw a new line, you must draw a code with a final code ("f" or "c" by default) or start a new line by taking a point with an initial code ("i" by default)

    • Lines: "i" for start and "f" for end.

    • Polygons: "i" for start and "c" for closure.

  • Quick Codes: It is possible to type a code directly into the status bar; if it does not exist in the database, it will be treated as a temporary punctual code that is not stored permanently.

The most recent versions include autocomplete and dynamic filter functions to speed up the search for codes while you type in the corresponding field.

It is possible to change code suffixes in settings.
