How does individual point survey work?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

The POINT SURVEY in TcpGPS for Android is a process that goes beyond simple coordinate capture, integrating precision validations, error management, and multimedia data collection. Below is a detailed explanation of the expanded functionality of this process:

1. Procedure and Real-Time Validations

Capture begins by pressing the manual POINT SURVEY button on the work bar. At that moment, the application automatically verifies whether the current position meets the configured Restrictions in the project, such as:

  • Position type: For example, requiring it to be "Fixed".

  • Minimum precision: Established limits for horizontal and vertical precision.

  • Number of satellites: A minimum number of satellites used in the measurement.

  • Age of Reduction to Ellipsoid: The time elapsed since the last correction received from the base.

If any of these conditions are not met, the application displays a warning to the user, who has the final authority to decide whether to save the point or discard the survey. In the subsequent List of points, those that did not meet the Restrictions will appear highlighted in red.

2. Duplicate Number Management

When the user manually enters a point number that already exists in the New Project, the application marks it in red on the Survey screen. When attempting to perform a survey of a duplicate number, a dialog opens showing the Coordinates (X, Y, Z) of the existing point, the newly measured point, the Difference between them, and the average. The user can choose between:

  • Overwrite: The Next point and its RAW DATA are completely replaced by the new measurement.

  • Delete: An arithmetic mean of the Coordinates is created and the RAW DATA of the new point are added to the previous ones, treating it as a precision point.

3. Epoch Capture (Precision Points)

If the user requires greater precision, they can Configure an observation time greater than 0 seconds. Depending on the configuration, with a short or long press of the survey button, the application will capture as many epochs as possible during that time. Upon finishing, a List of all captures is displayed with their deviations from the mean, allowing the deletion of epochs outside Contours before saving the final point.

4. Associated Information and Multimedia

When saving an individual point, TcpGPS automatically associates a large amount of technical and descriptive information:

  • RAW DATA: Date, UTC time, latitude, Length, ellipsoidal altitude, Bluetooth status, PDOP/HDOP/VDOP, and the correction base used.

  • Multimedia: Multiple photographs and voice notes can be linked directly. Photos store the point's Coordinates in their Exif header.

  • Name: If the option is enabled, the screen to complete custom attributes defined by the Owner will open automatically after the survey.

5. Graphical Representation

Once surveyed, the point appears on the map with the symbology and color defined by its code. If the point is of the linear or Raise type, it will automatically join with the previous vertex to form polylines or areas, respectively.
