How to add and use code prefixes?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

To add and use prefixes in tcpGPS codes, you must follow these configuration and usage steps:

  1. Enable the function in Settings

Before you can use them, you must enable the option in the application's general settings:

  • Go to Menu > Application > Configure.

  • Check the box "Enable Code Prefix".

  • Important note: To maintain data integrity, the system will not allow activating this option if there are already codes in your database that begin with a number followed by a letter.

  1. Configure the prefix in the code list

Once the function is enabled:

  • Access the Code Management screen (by long-pressing the "Code" field in the status bar or from the Edit menu).

  • Select the code you wish to use from the list.

  • At the top, a control called "Code Prefix" (Prefix Counter) will appear with the "+" and "-" buttons to increment or decrement the numeric value of the prefix.

  1. Utility and advanced usage

The use of prefixes is especially useful for working with linear objects and station observations:

  • Multiple simultaneous lines: It allows having multiple lines or polygons of the same code open at the same time, provided they have different prefixes (for example, 1CAMINO and 2CAMINO).

  • Multi-codes: It is possible to add a code separator and combine two identical codes with different prefixes at the same point if necessary.

Once configured, the code with its prefix will appear in the status bar and will be bound to the points captured subsequently.
