How to take a photo associated with a point?

Updated on tcpGPS Leer en español

To take and associate a photograph with a point in tcpGPS, you have several options depending on the stage of the survey or if you are in staking out mode:

  1. During point capture (Numerical Survey)

On the numerical survey screen, you can link an image immediately:

  • Direct buttons: When taking the measurement, specific buttons will appear in the numerical section that allow you to capture a photo directly with the device camera or attach an existing image.

  1. After taking the measurement (Map Mode)

If you have already captured the point but have not left the survey screen:

  • Bottom menu: In the Portrait (vertical) view, after taking the point, a camera icon will appear in the menu at the bottom of the screen, allowing quick access to add the image.

  1. From point editing or details

You can associate photographs with any point saved in the database at any time:

  • Access: Select the point on the map and press the information button ("i" icon), or find it in the List of points within the Edit menu.

  • MEDIA tab: Go to the tab called MEDIA (multimedia), where you can add one or multiple images to the same point using the camera or gallery controls.

  1. During Staking Out

If you are performing staking out tasks, the application offers a specific tool:

  • Add image to Last Point: There is a button in the staking out options (identified by a camera and a marker) that allows you to add an image to the last point that was staked out and recorded.

Technical Data of Images

  • Georeferencing: tcpGPS automatically saves the latitude and longitude of the receiver in the EXIF header of the image file, facilitating its subsequent location in other programs.

  • Automatic date: You can configure the application (from the Application > Configuration menu) to automatically insert the current date and time as text stamped on the photograph.

  • Quick camera: From version 2.11.2.0 onwards, there is a configuration option to activate the "quick camera", which integrates the camera view within the application interface itself to speed up simultaneous point and photo capture.

  • Compatibility: If you export the project in KMZ format, the photos will be included and can be viewed georeferenced in viewers such as Google Earth.
