tcpMDT

Draw breakline by code

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

Draws one or more 3D polylines in CAD connecting all points that share a given MDT code, sorted by point number from lowest to highest.

The optional filters (max_distance, max_dz, max_angle) allow the line to be segmented automatically when the distance, elevation difference or direction change between two consecutive points exceeds the specified threshold, generating separate segments. The operation can be undone with Ctrl+Z.

Prerequisites: The MDT plugin must be loaded and points with the specified code must exist in the active drawing. Use List drawing codes to verify that the code exists.

Parameters

Parameter

Type

Required

Default

Description

code

text

Yes

—

Exact MDT code (case-sensitive) of the points to connect.

layer

text

No

Code name

CAD layer where the polyline will be created. If not specified, the code is used as the layer name.

color

integer (1–256)

No

256 (by layer)

ACI color of the polyline. 256 = inherits layer color.

max_distance

number (m)

No

—

Maximum 2D distance between consecutive points. If exceeded, a new segment is started.

max_dz

number (m)

No

—

Maximum elevation difference between consecutive points to continue the same segment.

max_angle

number (°)

No

—

Maximum direction change angle between consecutive segments to continue the same segment.

Result

One or more 3D polylines created on the specified layer. The assistant reports the number of polylines and vertices created, and the _handle_ of each CAD entity.

Tip: If points of the same code belong to different alignments in the field (for example, several separate kerb segments), use Connect points by proximity instead. The key difference is that max_distance is required there, guaranteeing that unrelated points are never connected.

Example prompts

You can ask the assistant things like:

  • Draw the breakline with code CAMINO

  • Connect all points with code TN on layer TERRENO in red

  • Draw the CUNETA breakline cutting if the distance between points exceeds 20 metres

  • Create polylines with code BORDILLO and cut if the height difference exceeds 1.5 metres

  • Connect the points with code MURO in separate segments if they change direction by more than 45 degrees

  • Trace the line for code RIO with no distance limit
