tcpMDT

Generate contour lines

Updated on tcpMDT Leer en español

Generates contour lines (isolines) from the triangulated surface or active grid of the MDT drawing and draws them in CAD as 3D polylines. The contours are distributed into two groups: normal contours (base interval) and index contours or master contours (multiple of the base interval).

Returns the number of contours generated for each type and the elevation range covered.

Prerequisites: An active surface (TIN .sup or grid .mde) must exist in the MDT drawing. Use Query active surface information to verify this. If there is no active surface, first use the Create triangulated surface (TIN) command.

Parameters

Parameter

Type

Required

Default

Description

interval

number (m)

Yes

—

Interval between normal contours. Must be greater than 0.

major_interval

number (m)

No

5 × interval

Interval for index contours. If 0 is specified, no index contours are generated.

layer_normal

text

No

CURVAS_NORM

CAD layer for normal contours (according to MDT configuration).

layer_major

text

No

CURVAS_DIR

CAD layer for index contours (according to MDT configuration).

clear_layers

boolean

No

false

If true, clears the layers before drawing the new contours.

Result

The contour lines are drawn in CAD as 3D polylines on the specified layers. The assistant returns: number of normal contours, number of index contours and elevation range (min/max).

Tip: Use clear_layers=true when regenerating contours after modifying the surface, to avoid accumulating old contours. A typical relationship is a 1 m normal interval with index contours every 5 m.

Example prompts

You can ask the assistant things like:

  • Generate contour lines with a 1 metre interval

  • Create contours every 5 metres and index contours every 25 metres

  • Generate contour lines with a 2 m interval on layer TOPOGRAFIA

  • Draw the isolines with a 0.5 m interval clearing the previous contours first

  • Generate contour lines at 10 metres without index contours
