OpenBIM Formats for Infrastructures
APLITOP actively participates with buildingSMART International and developers from several countries in the development of the IFC format for infrastructure projects, mainly roads, railways, bridges and tunnels.
IFC Alignment
In 2017, MDT was the first commercial software in the world to implement the import and export of this format. From then on MDT you can import and export horizontal and vertical alignments in IFC 4x1 format.
At the congress held in Paris in 2018 we participated in the presentation of the final report on the implementation of the IFC Alignment format, as representatives of the Spanish working group, and shared our experience from the point of view of application development.

IFC Road
APLITOP also participated in the definition of the new standard for the exchange of BIM road data (IFC Road), initiated at the congress held in Barcelona in 2017.

Between 2017 and 2020 we collaborated on several tasks of phases 1 and 2, with greater dedication in the WP5 work package, for the implementation of prototypes for software developers, as can be seen in the project reports.

IFC 4.3 Infrastructure Extension
In 2020, this project arose as a need to harmonize IFC projects for roads and railways, which were joined by bridges, ports and canals. In addition, the Common Schema emerged to manage common concepts such as special structure, geotechnics, earthworks, etc. There was unanimity that all infrastructure projects should share a harmonized extension of the IFC scheme.
At this stage, we participated in the expert and developer working groups for the implementation and validation of the IFC 4.3 format, prior to its final approval.
