Overview
The Transfer Object Properties command copies the instance overrides from a source MDT object to a destination MDT object. It allows propagating the property value configuration of an already-defined object to another object in the project without having to enter values manually on the destination.
The command operates exclusively on instance overrides, meaning values specifically assigned to an object using the Assign Properties to Object command. It does not transfer Pset default values, MDT type overrides or XLS values.
If the source and destination objects are of the same MDT type, all overrides are compatible and the transfer is applied directly without any per-property confirmation. If the types differ, the preview window opens so the user can review which properties are transferable.
Command flow
Step 1 — Source object selection
The command line prompts:
Select source object [F]:
Click on an entity in the drawing — Selects the ARX entity as the source object.
F key — Opens the Select MDT file window to choose the object from the project file tree.
Step 2 — Destination object selection
Once the source is selected, the command line prompts:
Select destination object(s) [F]:
Click on an entity in the drawing — Selects the ARX entity as the destination.
F key — Opens the Select MDT file window.
Step 3 — Compatibility check
The command analyses each override on the source object and checks whether the Pset it belongs to is assigned to the MDT type of the destination object:
All overrides compatible — The transfer is applied directly without opening any additional window. If the destination already has an override for a transferred property, a per-property overwrite confirmation is shown.
Some overrides incompatible — The transfer preview window opens so the user can decide which properties to transfer and which to skip.
No overrides compatible — The command displays the message "No transferable properties found between these objects." and cancels.
Transfer Preview Window
Opens only when there are incompatible overrides between source and destination. Shows the full list of instance overrides from the source object, their compatibility with the destination's MDT type, and allows the user to select which ones to transfer.
Origin and destination information — Two lines at the top identifying the source and destination objects in the format "Origin: name (type: MdtType)" and "Destination: name (type: MdtType)".
Property list — Shows all instance overrides existing on the source object, grouped by set. Each row shows the set name, the property name, the override value, whether it is compatible with the destination's MDT type, and whether it is marked for transfer. Rows are organised with the set name as a group header without data columns of their own. Double-clicking a compatible row toggles its Apply state between Yes and No.
Compatible column — Indicates whether the Pset the property belongs to is assigned to the destination object's MDT type. An incompatible property means the destination does not have that property set and therefore the value would have no effect in the IFC export.
Apply column — Indicates whether the property is marked for transfer. Incompatible properties have this column fixed at No and cannot be marked. Compatible properties can be toggled individually with a double-click.
Mark all — Marks all compatible properties as Yes. The button is disabled when all compatible properties are already marked.
Unmark all — Unmarks all properties, setting Apply = No on every row. The button is disabled when no property is marked.
Accept — Applies the transfer of the marked overrides to the destination object. Only enabled when at least one property has Apply = Yes. For each override being transferred, if the destination already has a value for that property, the confirmation "The destination object already has a value for '[property]'. Overwrite?" is shown. Answering No skips that property without affecting the rest of the transfer.
Cancel — Closes the window without modifying any values on the destination object.
Transfer result
When the operation completes, the command prints the summary on the command line:
Transferred N properties. M ignored due to incompatibility.
Where N is the number of overrides actually written to the destination object and M is the number of properties skipped — either because they were incompatible or because the user declined the overwrite confirmation for that property.
Command messages
"Select source object [F]:" — Initial command-line prompt to select the object whose overrides will be copied.
"Select destination object(s) [F]:" — Command-line prompt to select the object that will receive the overrides.
"The source object has no instance overrides." — The object selected as the source has no values assigned via
IFC_ASIGOBJ. Only instance overrides are transferred; Pset default values, MDT type overrides and XLS values are not included. The command cancels.
"No transferable properties found between these objects." — All overrides on the source object belong to Psets that are not assigned to the destination's MDT type. No compatible property exists. The command cancels.
"The destination object already has a value for '[property]'. Overwrite?" — Per-property confirmation that appears when the destination already has an instance override for that property. Answering No skips that property without affecting the rest of the transfer.
"Transferred N properties. M ignored due to incompatibility." — Final summary printed on the command line when the operation completes.
Relationship with other commands
Assign Properties to Object (
IFC_ASIGOBJ) — The source of the transferred values are the instance overrides created with this command. Without at least one instance override on the source object,IFC_TRANSFPROPhas no data to transfer.
Assign Properties to MDT Types (
IFC_PROPASIG) — Determines which Psets are assigned to each MDT type, establishing which properties are compatible with the destination object during the transfer.
Export IFC (
IFC_EXPORTAR) — The transferred overrides have the highest priority in the value resolution chain and are included in the exported IFC file.
